Senator John Bonicac was instumental in securing a $100,000 grant in 2005 for road improvements on Glenerie Boulevard. The Highway Department was able to reclaim entire 1.5 miles of roadway. The entire project took about three weeks from start to finish.
To reclaim the roadway the entire road must first be ground up and then injected with calcium. Injecting the calcium helps to stabilize the road base and also acts as a dust control. Once this is done the roadway is graded and ready for new blacktop. As the new layer of blacktop is applied the driveways are blended.
The dedicated employees from the Town of Ulster Highway Department did another fine job. We were assisted by the highway departments from the towns of Saugerties, Kingston and Esopus. Thank you all for the use of your equipment and manpower! With their cooperation we were able to complete this project in a timely manner resulting in less disruption for the residents in the area.
